ALEC GLASSER CENTER FOR THE POWER OF MUSIC AND SOCIAL CHANGE
Engagement is at the heart of the Alec Glasser Center for The Power of Music and Social Change*, driving our mission to harness the transformative power of music for social good. By forging strategic partnerships with local and global organizations, schools and communities, we aim to create accessible platforms that empowered disadvantaged youth to explore and embrace the world of music transforming lives and communities in a profound way.
What we are building is unprecedented, timely and life-changing — a truly novel approach to understanding and leveraging music’s transformational role in society. Together, we are establishing tangible programs and partnerships that enrich lives and strengthen communities. The Alec Glasser Center for the Power of Music and Social Change means that it will become woven into the fabric of the School of Social Ecology and the entire UC Irvine campus. Its multi-pronged approach is focused on four key areas: Teach, Research, Engage and Celebrate.
The power of music, with support of UC Irvine faculty members, is a force that deserves serious study so that people from all walks of life and students from all disciplines can use it to help make the world a better place.
The Glasser Center aims to do just that through its four pillars of activity:
TEACH, RESEARCH, ENGAGE and CELEBRATE.
*Alec Glasser has fully endowed this novel Center at the University of California, Irvine’s School of Social Ecology.
“Alec Glasser’s generous donations to our school have enabled us to establish the Glasser Center and award student scholarships – and that’s just the beginning of the groundbreaking innovations we are planning. We are committed to our pursuit of solutions to the world’s most pressing problems.”
- Jon Gould, Dean of the School of Social Ecology
